Overview of the Asperger's Summer Program
Welcome to The Asperger's Summer Program. This is
an environment to learn Daily Living Skills such as morning routines, and increasing the ability to function in the
community; all while giving the participants opportunity to interact with peers and
develop relationships.
For the past 8 years we have been providing
our Summer Program to children and adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome, PDD-NOS,
and High-Communicating Autism.
The 2011 Program
Every year, we theme our Program to create a stimulating and reinforcing
environment for the participants. We blend the themes with the daily living
skills activities and recreational activities, to create an exciting and
interactive program.
Destination Imagination - The first 2 weeks of
each session will be filled with activities that will stimulate imagination
and encourage wonderment. Sometimes, participants will imagine themselves in
social situations and familiar community settings, learning to interact with
their environment. Other times, they will use their imagination to come up
with solutions to their everyday problems. Whether being entertained or
learning valuable skills, the participants will be excited to interact with
each other and staff in this fun-filled environment.
Superhero Adventures- The second 2 weeks of
each session will have the participants experiencing what it's like to be a
superhero. We will start by incorporating Superflex® into our daily routine
as a way to help participants with social thinking. Then, we will explore
the ways that we can improve to our daily living skills by unleashing our
inner superhero. We will accomplish all this while engaging in fun and
exciting superhero activities.
Celebrate It!- The last day of each session is
spent celebrating our gifts, talents, and the ways we've improved over the
summer. It is a fun-filled morning, that includes a talent show and an
awards ceremony. In the afternoon, participants have a blast at the "End of
the Session Party", packed with balloons, streamers, and prizes. Everything
wraps up with saying so long, but not goodbye, to our summer friends.
