Intuitive Social Ability quantifies the social
knowledge that we are not typically conscious of, or that
we don't typically discuss. Because it is not overtly taught, individuals
with Asperger's Syndrome lack much of this important knowledge.
Example: It
is important that we display certain emotions in social settings regardless
of legitimately feeling that emotion. For instance, displaying sympathy gives
others comfort and helps us to be viewed as caring people. Displaying sympathy can also help us to feel
sympathy (Rational Emotive Behavior).
People with Asperger's Syndrome do not naturally fake an emotion. They learn
to practice an emotion and they learn when they should feel an emotion. But
it is just as important to learn how and when to display that emotion, even
when they do not necessarily feel it.
The Intuitive Social Ability Workshops
incorporate learning, practicing, and applying vital social knowledge to help
individuals function
better in society. Each Workshop is comprised of...
1 meeting with the families to discuss the
topic, how it will be targeted, and what role they will play in the
natural environment
6 small group meetings with the participants
3 school visits to observe, rehearse, and
apply the information
2 home visits to observe, rehearse, and
apply the information |
