Overview
Welcome to The Young Adult Asperger's Summer Program.
This year, we will not only
focuses on developing relationships, but also on exploring and setting
life goals and gaining independent living skills.
We are proud to offer a summer program tailored specifically
to young adults (15 years-old and older) with
Asperger’s Syndrome,
PDD-NOS, and High-Communicating Autism. Participants are those who are
college or work bound, and preparing for independent living.

We are located at:
1455 97th Street
West Allis, Wisconsin
(Just south of the intersection of 97th Street & Greenfield Avenue)
We are very excited to announce that we will have 1 centrally located
site this year with busing available for Racine, Kenosha, Washington, and
Ozaukee County participants.
Dates & Times
8-Week Session: June 27- Aug 19 (9am to 3pm)
4-Week Session 1: June 27- July 22 (9am to 3pm)
4-Week Session 2: July 25- Aug 19 (9am to 3pm)
Participants may choose from 2 options:
3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
5 days per week (Monday-Friday)
Answers to Common Questions
The Young Adult Summer Program is a combination,
therapeutic, daily
living skills training, and
recreational environment.
Participants
may sign-up for either a 4-week or 8-week session.
We meet 6 hours per day.
Participants may sign-up for 3 or 5 days a week.
The days of the week the participants meet are pre-set.
We pro-rate for prearranged time off
(e.g. family vacation).
Ages range from 15 to 27 years old.
We go on outings every Wednesday to everywhere from a hiking
trip to Six Flags.
We have 1 staff member for every 5 participants.
Staff members are Masters, Bachelors, and college level.
Insurance will typically fund at least a portion of the
program.
The program is coverable through The Long-Term Support
Waiver, ARC, IRIS, and Community Care.
There may be funding available through DVR.
We offer transportation to and from the site for those in
neighboring counties. We recommend Let it Ride Transport to those with transportation needs. Their

Partial scholarships may be available for those who self-pay, or have lack insurance coverage.

Mondays- Independent Living Skills, Job Skills, Service Learning Project
Wednesday- Outings (Relationship Development)
Friday- Community Functioning, Stewardship, & Life Goals
Curriculum
Independent Living Skills- cooking, cleaning, hygiene, money management,
and access to the community
Examples:
-
Make a shopping
list for the week for all meals. Go shopping for a portion of it, and
prepare each type of meal.

Learn daily
routines for hygiene. Then, complete a Daily Hygiene Checklist each
day the attend the program.

Learn the skills
of money management, role-play with budget/spread sheets, working on
goal until competency. Then apply the skill in real life by running a
concessions business at the Summer Program site.
Social Interaction-
Learning proper interaction with peers, people of authority, and people in
the community
Examples:
-
Learn how
to approach a person for directions, role play the skill, then carry
it out in the natural environment.

Learn how to
make plans with a peer (on the phone, and in person), then carry it
out in the natural environment.

Tour the police
station and sit down with a police captain to discuss appropriate
interaction with the police when out in the community.
Establish Life
Goals- Future work, independence level, obligations to self, family, and
community
Examples:
-
Non-ASD peers
come in and discuss their own 5 and 10-year plan. Participants reflect
on those plans to help develop their plans for themselves.

Go to different
workplaces of interest to take tours and sit down with employees to
discuss their jobs.
Meet Your Staff
Timothy Kabara, NCSP
(Program Director)- Tim is the director
of The Summer Program and Maplegrove Treatment Center. He holds a Masters in School Psychology
and an EdS specializing in Autism Spectrum Disorders, from UW-Whitewater.
For the past 7 years, he has focused his clinical practice particularly on those
with Asperger's Syndrome.
Kara Felsman, EdS (Program Director)- Kara is a licensed School
Psychologist with Milwaukee Public School District. she is also a
clinician with Maplegrove Treatment Center. She holds an EdS
from UW-Milwaukee. We are excited to have
Kara return for her fourth year with us.
Brandon Kohl (Site
Leader)- Brandon holds a
bachelor's degree from UW-Milwaukee in history and political science. He has
a real passion for working with individuals on the spectrum as this is his
6th year with us.
Payment Options
Insurance- Everyone's insurance works differently. You may complete a
no-obligation registration form to begin the prior authorization process through
your insurance company. Upon completion of the form, our office will contact
your insurance company to clarify benefits. We will then contact you to discuss
coverage, co-pays, and payment options with you.
County Waiver- We currently are
contracted to provide this service through The Milwaukee County Long-Term
Support Waiver as Daily Living
Skills. Other counties have certain protocol to determine if this service is
covered. Contact your county coordinator to determine if this program is
covered.
County Family Support- Wisconsin
County Family Support has traditionally funded this program. Please contact your
care coordinator to determine coverage.
Extended School Year (ESY)- We
do not help make determinations of ESY nor contact districts to tell them about
the program. For those who are already qualified through
their school district, you must contact your district and make the determination
if this is an appropriate placement. Your district may contact us to learn more
about the program. We have had seven public school districts use our program for ESY
in the past.
Private Payment- For those of
you who elect to pay privately, or do not have outside funding, we offer
financial need scholarships and payment plans that will fit within your budget.

Fees
Fees are flat rates, and not based on
hourly attendance. Pro-rating is available for pre-arranged days off.

Outing fees are $18 per an outing and $45 for the Six Flags outing
There is an additional $23 fee per bus ride to and from the Program if you
elect that option.
